    • Amazing Vehicle

This 99 is my 2nd one. My 87 went over 350,000 without a second thought. Almost trouble free, and only minor issues, (sensors, A/C compressor, things like that) but what can I expect for 350,000 miles. I used it, abused it, neglected it, and put it through things that would destroy the best of them. After I sold it to a friend, it got passed around his family for about another 5 years. It did hit 500,000 before I lost track of it. Even at that point, not even the valve cover was removed. That 4.0 is amazing. I have 84,000 on my 99 now, and it has never let me down, never stranded, always starts right up, even in -30 degree weather. I had to put a fuel pump in it, due to a short span of hard starting, But I expect at least that. What a fantastic truck. A little tight for front legroom, but changing the seat tracks to power helped a ton. If it got totalled today, I would replace it with another exactly like it. There will probably be one in my driveway till the day I die.
    • The rumors are true, these things last forever.

Ive had my Cherokee for years, and this has been by far the best/most reliable vehicle ive ever owned...I picked this car up as a winter beater, but as time went on I began to realize that this boxy, iconic Jeep is capable of much more than that. With over 20 years under its belt and over 200,000 miles, its never had a check engine light, never had a breakdown, and has really only required minimal maintenance (the past two years its required oil changes and a new battery). I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone that is looking for a capable 4X4 that will likely outlast most newer/more expensive vehicles.
    • Kelley Blue book for the XJ model is inaccurate.

The XJ model Cherokee is known for its interchangeability with other vehicles and is one of the best modifiable off road Sport Utility's designed. Very user friendly and can go places that (with very little mods) any wrangler can go. I know cause I own one of the most unique 97 Jeep XJ's in idaho. The I6 and AW4 trans (which can take almost 800 hp stock...it's the A/T that also comes in the Toyota supra turbo) combination with the 242 selec-trac T-case (2H-4H P/T-4H F/T-N-4lo)makes mine very universal. Known for its low end torque and variable options I can go practically anywhere. The street value depends on the build so KBB is way off, I have seen 97-01 jeep XJ resell with 350k miles for as high as $7k. Depends on the upkeep, mine is retrofitted with a 4.5" lift, 9500 lb winch, roof rack, offroad box, cb, full recovery gear, AT tires, a full voice controlled Nav and Subwoofer system (2 12"s and 4k watts of amp) dual batt kit, front floods and light bar, rock lights, armored front and rear bumpers with some performance upgrades, I have competed with it and never got less than 2nd place in offroad challenges, been rescue and recovery for 5 clubs. I cant get 10k for mine (cause I use it for what it designed for) with less than 5 k in mine I can sell for about that amount cause it's got scratches and little dings. But my drive train is immaculate. 187k miles and runs strong. 2800 high blue book is laughable at best. At least 5k min for one in good shape I would say. Under 100k and flawless with maint records and a good original owner? 8500. Thats my opinion. I get memories...so does the fam, just fyi the wife and I both have 97 XJ's. Untouchable... life is better outdoors! #xjlife
